Waste. Includes rubbish, slimes, tailings, effluent, wastewater, fumes, smoke, other waste products of any kind and other matter that is prescribed by regulation to be waste.

Waste Oil or Used Oil. Oil from an industrial and non-industrial sources which has been acquired for lubricating and other purposes and has become unsuitable for its original purpose due to the presence of impurities or the loss of original properties. Waste oil includes: lubricating oils (engine, turbine or gear); hydraulic fluids (including transmission fluids); metal working fluids (including cutting, grinding, machining, rolling, stamping, quenching, and coating oils); insulating fluid or coolant (transformer fluid); and crude or fuel oils or wastes from petroleum refining operations. Waste oil does not include oils derived from animal or vegetable fats, nor does it include solvents of any kind.

Waste Petroleum Product. A petroleum product, whether used or not, that is no longer suitable for use and includes a petroleum product being stored for the purpose of recycling.

Water. Includes

  1. flowing or standing water whether on or below the surface of the earth, and whether naturally or artificially created, and
  2. the ice of any body of water.

Water Shower. A term used in the Pulp and Paper Industry to describe a process used as the final pulp washing stage. A high quality water shower is used to displace the contaminated interfibre water.

Waters of the Province. All water in the Province of New Brunswick and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, includes coastal water within the jurisdiction of the Province, ground water and surface water.

Water Quality Regulation 82-126. Is the Water Quality Regulation - Clean Environment Act, being New Brunswick Regulation 82-126 under the Clean Environment Act. The Regulation, administered by the New Brunswick Department of Environment, provides the ambient standards for waters of the province. It prescribes the use of the water bodies and establishes the water quality criteria that must be met to protect designated areas.

Wax. A grade of substance resembling beeswax in appearance and character and in general, characterised by its composition of esters and higher alcohols, and by its freedom of fatty acids. It is used mainly to produce candles, protective covering for floors; to impregnate paper, cardboard and fibreboard and as bases for cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.

Wax Emulsion. A mixture of a resin and wax used to impregnate the fibre in the manufacture of fibreboard/particleboard.

Weight Percent Sulphur. The sulphur content in a feedstock fuel in weight divided by the total weight of the feedstock fuel.

Wet Scrubbing. A proven air pollution control device that mixes an aqueous stream or slurry with the exhaust gases from a unit operation to control emissions of an air contaminant from a source. Largely used to control emissions of particulate matter or sulphur dioxide.

Wood-fired Boiler. See Woodwaste Boiler, or Hog Fuel Boiler.

Woodwaste Boiler. A combustion chamber and the ancillary equipment that burns woodwaste fuel for the primary purpose of producing steam or hot water for heat generation transfer. Also see Hog Fuel Boiler.
