Whalen died on May 3, 2020, following an incident at the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac.

Presiding coroner Michael Johnston and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.
