FREDERICTON (GNB) – A new service offered by the provincial government aims to simplify annual child support recalculations for parents who are separated or divorced.

The Child Support Recalculation Service helps ensure fairness to both the payer and recipient at no charge, without having to return to court.

“This quick and convenient service offers the opportunity to recalculate child support orders based on a parent’s income,” said Justice Minister Hugh J. Flemming. “This will benefit many New Brunswick parents by reducing the time, expense and stress that can result from the court process.”

Once enrolled, the service automatically recalculates support payments and the applicable proportionate shares of special expenses each year using the child support guidelines and a person’s latest assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency.

“Going through a separation or divorce is already difficult enough for families,” said Flemming. “Providing this service relieves some of the pressure on parents, alleviating the need to return to court every year and allowing them to focus more on the well-being of their children and themselves. It will also ease the burden on our province’s court resources.”
