Provincial Highways in Municipalities

Provincial Highways in Municipalities fall within the following 2 categories:

  1. The Provincial-Municipal Highway Partnership (PMHP) Program, formerly known as the Municipal Designated Highway (MDH) Program, was created in the 1970’s to provide financial assistance to municipalities for capital upgrades to provincial-municipal highways (excludes bypass highways). Over 1,400 km of provincial-municipal highways are eligible for funding under the PMHP Program.  
      
  2. Provincial highways located within the post municipal reform boundaries, that were previously not within a municipality will continue to be owned, maintained, and funded by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI), and would include bridges and bypass highways.

We are introducing a formal application process for municipalities to submit their priorities for improvements to provincial-municipal highways. The information stream will be used to help DTI build and maintain our capital plan for transportation projects and published under the title “The Road Ahead”.

The Road Ahead Plan is a 3-Year Capital Investment Plan that outlines how DTI plans to build, repair and maintain our province’s transportation network. This plan provides transparency regarding future projects for the public, industry and municipalities and provides municipalities the opportunity to properly plan for upcoming work.

Information for PMHP Program Applicants

The required information in the PMHP application will provide DTI with consistent and essential information for all applications to properly evaluate PMHP Program proposals.
