Government of New Brunswick

Overview

All firefighters may obtain a New Brunswick licence plate for their vehicle that identifies they are a firefighter. These plates are available free of charge for volunteer firefighters.

Eligibility

The provincial government has eliminated the fees for licence plates for volunteer firefighters, effective January 2, 2020.

To qualify for a firefighter plate, a firefighter must be on the list supplied to Service New Brunswick by the New Brunswick Association of Fire Chiefs (NBAFC). Additionally:

• If you are a career firefighter on a career department, fees still apply.
• If you are on a fire department with both career and volunteer firefighters, a completed Certificate of Volunteer Firefighter Status form is required stating you are a volunteer.
• If you are on a fully volunteer department, or a volunteer department with a paid fire chief, your plates are free of charge and no form is required.

Description

Firefighter plates may be obtained in person at local Service New Brunswick offices. Effective January 2, 2020, there is no fee for licence plates for volunteer firefighters if they provide, at the time of obtaining the plate, proof that they are a volunteer in good standing with a completed Certificate of Volunteer Firefighter Status or their name is included in the list provided to Service New Brunswick by the NBAFC.

Fees

Unless otherwise specified, Fees exclude the harmonized sales tax (HST).
