Overview

Driver Training Course Licences are required for a business offering a driver training course.

Eligibility

Applicants and the driver training course licence must meet all of the applicable standards, requirements, terms and conditions under the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.

Issuing a driver training course licence to the applicant authorizes the operation of the course in the particular location specified on the licence.

The required fees must accompany all applications.

The Registrar of Motor Vehicles may impose any terms and conditions they consider appropriate in relation to the licence.

Description

The Motor Vehicle Branch of the Department of Public Safety provides licensing services for driver training schools and instructors.

A driver training school licence requires the holder to ensure that records are maintained for three years at the premises of the course, indicating the:

  • identity of each student,

  • success or failure record of each student,

  • number of hours completed by each student in the classroom,

  • number of hours completed in an instruction vehicle by each student,

  • method of theoretical instruction completed by each student,

  • particulars of all maintenance performed on each instruction vehicle, and

  • date of each occasion on which the licence has been renewed.


  • The holder of a driver training course licence who wishes to renew the licence shall apply to the Registrar for renewal not more than sixty days before the licence expires.

    Unless otherwise specified, Fees exclude the harmonized sales tax (HST).
