Overview

The NB 9-1-1 Bureau provides the citizens of New Brunswick rapid and accurate access to emergency services on a 24/7 basis. Through six Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) around the province, the 9-1-1 call-taking service receives and transfers calls to an emergency service, i.e. police, fire, ambulance or poison control.

Eligibility

All members of the general public are eligible to receive service by NB 9-1-1 on a 24/7 basis.

Information about the service is provided to the public through inter-departmental/stakeholder communications, telephone book insert (What is 9-1-1 Service?), website, public education initiatives as required (ex. telephone bill inserts), and a toll free number 1-888-353-4444.

Description

The NB 9-1-1 Bureau provides the citizens of New Brunswick rapid and accurate access to emergency services on a 24/7 basis. Through six Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) around the province, the 911 call-taking service receives and transfers calls to an emergency service, i.e. police, fire, ambulance or poison control.

A 9-1-1 emergency is a threat to your health, safety or property.

Call 9-1-1 when there is a:
- Fire
- Serious accident
- Crime in progress
- Person or property in immediate danger
- Life-threatening medical situation
- Exposure to, inhalation or swallowing of a poisonous substance
- Hazardous material

The NB 9-1-1 Bureau manages the ongoing operations of the service, including management of all records associated with the program, and civic addressing for unincorporated areas of the province.

  All major telecommunication companies collect a monthly service fee of $0.97 per phone line from subscribers to cover costs of the service, i.e. mapping, new technology, development of a regional fire dispatch, standards and quality assurance, and compensation to PSAPs for call taking. 0.972021-01-01
