FREDERICTON (GNB) – Members of the public are invited to Government House, in Fredericton, on Saturday, May 6, to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

“Over the past 50 years or more, the King has visited Canada many times and has established lasting relationships with many communities throughout the country,” said Lt.-Gov. Brenda Murphy. “We look forward to welcoming New Brunswickers at Government House on the morning of May 6 to celebrate this historic occasion, a first in 70 years. For many of us, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the coronation of a Canadian monarch.”

A viewing of the coronation ceremony broadcast, live from London, will be followed by a coronation flag-raising ceremony at Government House. The house will be decorated for the occasion, and occasion-appropriate refreshments will be served. Commemorative pins and souvenir cards will be distributed.

The agenda will be as follows:

  • Doors open at 5:30 a.m.
  • Broadcast from the United Kingdom on BBC/CBC begins at 6 a.m.
  • Coronation scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.
  • Raising of coronation flag at Government House at about 9:30 a.m. (following the crowning of King Charles III).
