CHARLOTTETOWN (GNB) – Team New Brunswick won three medals Wednesday at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown.

On the first day of judo competition Marisol Savoie, of Moncton, captured gold in the women’s individual 44 kg and teammate Egan McLean, of Quispamsis, won a bronze in the men’s individual 60 kg.

Dominique Richard, of Shediac Cape, earned the bronze medal in the women’s foil individual event Wednesday for the province’s second medal in fencing. Wednesday’s three-medal performance brings the province’s total to eight.

Claire Han, of Fredericton earned a bronze in the women’s épée individual event Tuesday. Fencing is marking its return to Canada Games at the 2023 Canada Winter Games after a ten-year hiatus since the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke. Both women’s boxing and doubles mix curling are making their respective debut at the Games. Noah Riggs and Julia Elizabeth Evans, both of Burton, are representing Team Brunswick in doubles mix with Tessa Scott, of Saint John, and Lily Brown, of Salisbury in women’s boxing.
