CHARLOTTETOWN (GNB) -- Team New Brunswick’s women’s short track speed skating relay squad won a bronze medal Saturday at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown.

The foursome of Mya Payne, Katie Bower, Courtney Charlong and Hannah MacDougall skated to the bronze medal in the 3,000 metre women’s relay. Saturday’s medal is Team New Brunswick’s fourth medal of the Canada Games.

Earlier this week, Charlong won bronze in the women’s 500 metre short track. Dexter Richard earned a bronze medal in the men’s individual trampoline. He and teammate Eric Davis won a gold medal in the men’s synchro trampoline to claim the team’s first medal.

The short track relay medal comes on the final day of week one of competition at the 2023 Canada Winter Games. Week one athletes return to New Brunswick Sunday as week two participants head to Prince Edward Island for competition.

Week two competition consists of male curling, doubles mixed curling, archery, badminton, boxing, cross-country skiing, fencing, figure skating, women’s hockey, judo and alpine skiing.

Alpine skiers will compete in three disciplines (Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom) at Crabbe Mountain, located outside Fredericton, Feb. 28-Mar. 2. Ski cross competition will occur later in the week at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale to round out the alpine skiing competition.
