NIAGARA (GNB) – Team New Brunswick’s track and field squad returns to competition Friday at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

The squad hopes to carry over Wednesday’s three-medal performance back to the Brock University track and field with several medal potential and personal best performances. The track and field athletes return after today’s training day.

The team’s golf foursome comprised of Julien Babineau, of Dieppe, Jacob Rockwood, of Quispamsis, Callie Taylor, of Quispamsis, and Addison McClune, of Rothesay, sits tied for seventh in the team competition heading into Friday’s third round.

Friday’s competition will see men’s box lacrosse play Prince Edward Island with the winner advancing to an evening quarter-final match against Ontario. Team New Brunswick defeated Prince Edward Island today 6-4 and will play the same team again on Friday.

Men’s softball hits the field Friday for a pair of games against Quebec and Ontario. The team lost twice today, losing 4-0 against British Columbia and 8-4 to Manitoba. The men and women’s volleyball teams also hit the floor Friday. The women volleyballers face off against Prince Edward Island while the men play Yukon.

Canoe kayak is back in the water in the K1 5000 metre women and men events. Kyra Hector, of Quispamsis, finished eighth in Thursday’s K1 200 metre and Jon Magee, of Rothesay, placed seventh in the men’s K1 200 metre. In rowing, the men’s four advances to Saturday’s A final. The women’s double, women’s four, women’s eight and men’s lightweight double advanced to Saturday’s B finals.

Sailing returns to Lake Ontario for a pair of laser radial female and laser male races for Connor Sullivan and Morgan Haslett, both of Saint John.

Women’s soccer, road cycling and rowing only return to competition Saturday. The women’s soccer lost in penalty kicks to Nova Scotia today. The road cycling road race through the streets of the town of Pelham saw Émilie McIntyre, of Memramcook, Laurence Arseneau, of Moncton, and Florence Levesque, of Dieppe, place 14th, 23rd and 29th in the women’s event. In the men’s event Noah Lydon, of Fredericton, Maxime Ouellette, of Grand Falls, Pascal LeBlanc, of Notre-Dame de Kent, and Colby Sirois, of Grand Falls, finished 28th, 30th, 37th, and 39th respectively.
