NIAGARA (GNB) – Team New Brunswick claimed three medals in track and field today at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

Isaac Cull, of Fredericton, claimed a silver medal in the men’s 3000-metre steeplechase and Ryan Evans, of Saint John, mined a silver medal in the men’s decathlon. Lexie Shannon, of Fredericton, won a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump.

The track and field team’s three-medal performance day gives Team New Brunswick 14 medals (two gold, five silver and eight bronze) in the standings at the games. Track and field athletes return to competition Friday.

Golf completed its first round of competition today. Callie Taylor shot a first-round score of 78, with Addison McClune, of Rothesay, shooting a round of 85 in the women’s event. Julien Babineau, of Dieppe, shot a first-round score of 74 and Jacob Rockwood, of Quispamsis, shot a round 78 in the men’s event. The golfers hit the course again Thursday for their second round.

Women’s soccer defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 3-0 this evening. The team hits the field Thursday against Nova Scotia. Men’s softball lost a pair of close games today, 9-4 to Newfoundland and Labrador and 4-2 to Alberta. The men hit the field Thursday in two games against British Columbia and Manitoba.

In men’s box lacrosse, Team New Brunswick lost a pair of battles today, losing 7-3 against Quebec and 8-4 against Saskatchewan. The team plays Prince Edward Island Thursday evening.

Men’s and women’s volleyball lost to Alberta 3-1 and 3-0 respectively. Both teams play Saskatchewan Thursday.

In canoe kayak, Kyra Hector, of Quispamsis, claimed ninth in the women’s 1000 metre consolation finals and Jon Magee, of Rothesay, claimed eighth in the men’s 1000 metre consolation finals. The kayakers are back on the water Thursday in K1 200 metre female and male and K2 mixed 500 metre events.

Rowing advanced to the men’s pair A final today. The men’s quad and women’s lightweight advance to the B finals. The rowers hit the water again Thursday in the five events.

Sailing returns to Lake Ontario Thursday. Morgan Haslett, of Saint John, enters the women’s single handed laser radial second race of competition in sixth place. Connor Sullivan, of Saint John, enters the men’s single handed laser second race in ninth place.

Road cycling returns to competition Thursday with the women’s and men’s road race in the town of Pelham.
