FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Social Development has issued a temporary operating licence to a 30-bed special care home in Neguac, Villa Neguac. This will allow it to stay in operation until its ownership is transferred to a potential buyer.

“We recognize the important role that special care homes play,” said Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard. “We are pleased to see these important services now being maintained in this region thanks to the temporary operating licence allocated to a new operator.”

All statutory requirements and standards established under legislation were met before the temporary licence was issued. During that process, residents of Villa Neguac have been allowed to remain in the facility. Former residents of Foyer Saint-Bernard may request a placement at Villa Neguac in accordance with their level of needs and at the discretion of the operator. The current owner of Foyer Saint-Bernard is still considering options for the future of the facility.

“Once again, we recognize the dedication of staff at both special care homes and we thank them for the services they have provided and will continue to provide to the residents,” said Shephard. “I also recognize local MLA and minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation Réjean Savoie for his dedication to this file and his commitment to the residents of Neguac.”

The Department of Social Development will continue to closely monitor the situation at the existing facilities in Neguac until the transfer of ownership is completed.
