SALISBURY (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments announced a combined $650,000 investment today to support the continued growth of the Salisbury Farmers and Artisan Market.

“Investing in this project is in keeping with our commitment to build vibrant and sustainable communities,” said Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland. “This market is an important part of the local economy as well as a place for residents to gather and socialize.”

Holland spoke on behalf of Réjean Savoie, the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The project includes renovating an existing barn to improve accessibility features and construct gender-neutral washrooms.

The province is contributing $250,000 toward the project while the federal government is providing $300,000 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), as well as $100,000 from Economic and Social Development Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund.

“Strong, vibrant communities in New Brunswick are a critical part of a robust and inclusive economic recovery. Investing in shared public spaces like the market in Salisbury helps revitalize local economies, boosts tourism, and gives residents a place to come together safely,” said Official Languages Minister and minister responsible for ACOA Ginette Petitpas-Taylor.

“We are so thankful for the support we have received from the federal government through ACOA, the provincial government and our own municipal government here in Salisbury,” said market president Mark MacDonald. “We hope this building becomes a safe and accessible place for the people of this village to gather and celebrate all things local.”
