Overview

Off-Road Vehicle Dealer Licences are required for buying or acquiring off-road vehicles for the purpose of selling the vehicles to the public.

Eligibility

Every application for a dealer's licence must include the following:

  • the name and address of the applicant;

  • if the applicant is a partnership, the name and address of each partner;

  • if the applicant is a limited partnership under the Limited Partnership Act, the name and address of each general partner;

  • if the applicant is a corporation, the names of the principal officers of the corporation;

  • the location where the business for which the licence is required will be conducted; and

  • any other information required by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.

    • Description

    The Motor Vehicle Branch of the Department of Justice and Public Safety provides licensing for off-road vehicle dealers.

    The term "off-road vehicle" means any motor vehicle designed or adapted for off-road use and includes an all-terrain vehicle, a dirt bike, a dune buggy, a motorized snow vehicle (snowmobile) or an amphibious machine.

    The Off-Road Vehicle Act defines an all-terrain vehicle as one that:

  • operates or travels on three or more tires or has been adapted to operate on four tracks;

  • has a seat designed to be straddled by the operator; and

  • has handlebars for steering.

    Unless otherwise specified, Fees exclude the harmonized sales tax (HST).
