Overview


Photo identification cards are available to residents of New Brunswick to use as identification when they do not hold a valid driver's licence.

Eligibility

Any resident of New Brunswick may apply for a photo identification card. There is no age restriction.

When applying for a photo identification card (new, exchange, or expired for more than two years), you will need to submit:

• at least one document from the Acceptable Identification Documents list
• at least two documents from the list of Acceptable Proof of New Brunswick Residency Documents.
• proof of name change if applicable (i.e. marriage certificate, divorce papers, or Certificate of Name Change).

To change your address on your photo identification card, you will need to visit any Service New Brunswick Center and submit at least two documents from the list of Acceptable Proof of New Brunswick Residency Documents.

Apply In Person

To apply for or renew your photo identification card, visit any Service New Brunswick Centre. A new photo is required at time of each renewal.

Photo identification cards cannot be renewed online, via TeleServices or by mail.

Card Issuance

The physical printing of photo identification cards is done offsite at a facility that uses advanced security features. When applying for your card, you will receive a 30-day temporary document and your card will arrive securely in the mail in approximately 14 days. This document does not serve as proof of ID.
