FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued by Public Safety Minister Kris Austin in recognition of Police Week:

May 15 to 20 marks National Police Week. It is a chance to express our gratitude to all police officers and peace officers across New Brunswick for their commitment and dedication. Police Week is a national awareness campaign that encourages increased awareness and understanding between police and the communities they serve.

It is fitting that this year’s theme is Committed to serve. Police and peace officers are on duty around the clock, and we recognize that they handle their demanding and often dangerous roles with professionalism, selflessness, and pride.

We also recognize the impact of crime on individuals and communities and this is why we are working with our policing partners on initiatives to combat crime in the province. I am proud that the work of the Safer Communities Section, the Provincial Crime Reduction Unit and local police agencies, have been leading to multiple arrests and seizures over the past year.

I am proud of the collaborative efforts among all law enforcement personnel and I look forward to continuing our work with our partners to keep New Brunswickers safe.
