FREDERICTON (GNB) – New reports posted online give the public more access to statistics regarding the function of provincial courts.

The reports use data compiled by the Department of Justice and Public Safety to provide transparency on the performance of provincial court operations.

“Having efficient courts benefits everyone by ensuring access to justice,” said Justice and Public Safety Minister Hugh J. Flemming. “We regularly hear from individuals who want to know more about court operations. That is why we are pleased to provide better visibility into operations around the province.”

The reports provide information such as court delays, unresolved and resolved charges by offence type, the age of unresolved and resolved charges, the outcome of charges resolved, courtroom allocations, and caseload trends during the previous eight quarters.

They include an overview of the provincial court as a whole, as well as individual details by judicial district.
