SAINT JOHN (GNB) – An inquest will be held into the death of Wesley Robert Geneau who died at the Madawaska Regional Correctional Centre on Sunday, Feb. 6, acting chief coroner Michael Johnston announced today. Geneau, 40, was found unresponsive that morning. Staff administered first aid and he was transported to the Edmundston Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The presiding coroner and a jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses to determine the facts surrounding Geneau’s death. The jury will have an opportunity to make recommendations to prevent deaths under similar circumstances.

The presiding coroner, schedule and location are yet to be determined. The inquest date will be announced once confirmed. No further information is available at this time.
