FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder in recognition of the National Day of Mourning. The video message for the Day of Mourning is available online:

Every year too many Canadians lose their lives and many others are injured at their workplace.

Today, during our National Day of Mourning, let’s stop and take a moment to remember and honour our family, friends and neighbours who have lost their lives or had them altered by workplace tragedies.

And while we remember these tragedies, let’s not forget that this day is also about renewing our commitment to improving the health and safety of all workplaces.

Today, and everyday, I encourage New Brunswickers to do everything within their power to prevent workplace hazards and incidents.

By making health and safety the first priority, and committing to protecting workers, I know we can continue to make workplaces safer.

I also want to acknowledge the efforts of our frontline workers who risk their health and safety everyday to serve others, something we are especially thankful for during these uncertain times.

On this Day of Mourning, let’s pause; reflect; remember; and renew.
