Overview

A tax status statement discloses the amount of liability that is due and payable by any taxpayer or collector of tax related to Tobacco Tax, Gasoline and Motive Fuel Tax, Amusement Tax, Pari-Mutuel Tax and the former Sales Tax as of the date of issuance of the statement, according to the records maintained by the tax commissioner.

If an audit is performed, the outcome could still result in a liability after a statement has been issued.

Eligibility

Any person may request a tax status statement if sufficient information is provided to identify the account(s) involved and the fee accompanies the request.

Description

The primary benefit of this certificate is that it discloses the amount of any tax lien mentioned in the overview against a given name at a specific point in time. Requests may be made in person at any local Service New Brunswick Centre or by mail to the Department of Finance, Accounts Receivable Unit, P.O. Box 3000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5G5. The written request must contain the requester's name and mailing information or fax number, depending on the desired delivery channel and the name of the company or individual for which the information is requested. Five days should be allowed for processing. The fee must accompany the request.
