UTOPIA (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing a combined $58 million in road infrastructure upgrades for the province’s strategic trade corridors.
“Our government knows that New Brunswickers want safe and reliable road infrastructure,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Jeff Carr. “We want to ensure we are doing all we can to manage our infrastructure in a sustainable way, and that includes working with our federal partners to get more accomplished.”
Carr spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver.
“Better roads and highways benefit all Canadians,” said federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne. “This project will create efficient and safer transportation routes and bridges for New Brunswick communities, businesses and people, extending the use of the overall road network for decades to come.”
The funding will be allocated to 14 infrastructure projects over eight years, including the replacement of three culverts along Route 785 in the Lake Utopia area.
The provincial government will provide $33.7 million for the upgrades. The federal government is contributing $24.3 million through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects Fund.
