FREDERICTON (GNB) – Applications for the 2018 Low-Income Seniors' Benefit will be available April 3.

“Your government is committed to helping seniors and we are pleased to provide this benefit to vulnerable seniors,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “We know that many New Brunswick seniors rely on this support to supplement their income and to assist with household expenses or other necessities.”

To be eligible for the $400 benefit, a person must have been a resident of New Brunswick on Dec. 31, 2017, and have received one of the following federal benefits under the Old Age Security Act:

- Guaranteed Income Supplement (65 years or older)

- Allowance for Survivor Program (between 60 and 64 years old)

- Allowance Program (between 60 and 64 years old)

“This is one of many programs available to help New Brunswickers,” said Rogers. “I encourage all low-income seniors to check their eligibility to see if they qualify for this benefit to help improve their financial security.”

Applications will be available April 3 at Service New Brunswick centres and online at both the Department of Finance and Service New Brunswick websites. Completed applications may be returned to the Department of Finance, Revenue Administration Division, PO Box 1900, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5G4. The last day to apply is Dec. 31.
